Mets Said To Pick Up Alex Cora, Utility Infielder

Infielder reportedly to sign a one-year, $2 million deal

There's a headline that probably will do nothing for a demoralized Met fan base. A day after being outworked and outspent by a division rival, Rob Bradford of WEEI, is reporting the Mets have signed light-hitting, slick fielding, utility player Alex Cora to a one year deal with the Mets worth $2 million. Cora, whom the Mets have coveted since the beginning of winter, will be filling in at 2nd and every once in awhile give Reyes a rest at SS.

Cora played in 75 games with the Red Sox last season, batting .270 with a .371 OBP and a .349 SLG %.

Perhaps most disappointing, is the realization, Orlando Hudson's chances of roaming 2nd base at Citi Field are slim to none, with slim just departing the station.
